Health & Safety

Health:
  • Tap Water: Safe to drink but bottled water preferred.
  • Heat & Hydration: The primary health concern. Dehydration and heat exhaustion are real risks April–October. Carry water at all times; drink 3–4 liters daily in summer; wear sunscreen (SPF 50+), hats, and UV-protective clothing.
  • Heatstroke Warning: Symptoms include dizziness, nausea, and confusion. Seek air-conditioning immediately; call 998 for ambulance if severe.
  • Medical Facilities: Excellent private hospitals (Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City).
  • Vaccinations: No mandatory vaccinations for most travelers; Hepatitis A/B and typhoid recommended for extended stays.
  • Travel Insurance: Strongly recommended; medical costs can be high without coverage.
Safety:
  • Abu Dhabi is consistently ranked among the world’s safest cities. Violent crime is extremely rare.
  • Emergency Numbers: Police 999; Ambulance 998; Fire 997
  • LGBTQ+ Travelers: Homosexuality is illegal in the UAE. Public discretion is essential.
  • Photography: Avoid photographing government buildings, military sites, and local women without permission.
